Happy International Labor Day! Just because today is a Saturday – it doesn’t lose the significance. Across Industries last year had been one of the toughest time to work – where we lost “in-person” affection we received– be it the greeting, smiles, short talks we exchanged at hallways/cafeteria/ cabs, and off-course the lunch we shared on a table – the pings to go for a chai- break in the evening. Some lost jobs- our work was re-defined – for those in business/ sales roles – it was one of the most ambiguous times to hit the target and pursuing hope with the larger – sales cycle time.
I have been comforted with the assurance God gives us through the different seasons we go at work – God is much interested in your work and would – we trust that God is using our works to draw us closer to him. Quoting a few of scriptures that help me sail through
Experience the rest God offers you – When we are over-burden with the work we deal with and you have hardly anyone who understands you. Jesus is calling you - "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” Matthew 11:28
Work not for rewards – Don’t do your work to butter your boss – or as a trick to writing on your appraisal doc or for lobbying for promotion - I call this the golden rule for the workplace – “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving” Colossians 3:23-24
Through the last 7 years of working in different companies and roles – I always seek the favor and wisdom from the Lord to excel at my work. Don’t lose yourself to cheap office politics – now is the most important to extend a hand of compassion to your colleagues, customers – speak – hear -out people – pray for them!
